The vision of the founding members was to establish a floor of like minded specialists located conveniently within proximity of the Federal and State courts and tribunals. Denman Chambers was one of the original chambers in Sydney located in Phillip Street. The redevelopment of the Phillip Street precinct in 1950s resulted in the then members of Denman Chambers moving and the chambers name no longer being utilised. In choosing a name for chambers, the name Denman was resurrected bringing with it a rich history and a long association with the Bar in New South Wales. Chambers were opened by Justice Mary Gaudron of the High Court of Australia. In her speech, Justice Gaudron encouraged the members of chambers to draw inspiration from the life of Lady Denman (1884-1954) who was a significant public figure promoting the interests of women and was deeply involved in the work of the National Council of Women. Since 1994 the membership of the floor and the areas of practice have expanded considerably. Whilst industrial law, employment law and occupational health and safety remain a significant area of legal practice at Denman Chambers, the barristers on the floor now practice in almost every jurisdiction. As such there is now a wide range of experience, seniority and skills available on the floor. Denman Chambers consists of twenty barristers, five of whom are Senior Counsel. Former members of the floor who have been appointed to the bench are His Honour Judge Norrish of the District Court of New South Wales, His Honour Justice Haylen of the Industrial Court of New South Wales and His Honour Justice Rothman of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Keywords: lawyer, BarristerService Areas: Social Media: Video: Your comments (not for publishing) * — Required information Denman Chambers ← View details LEVEL,7/ 185 ELIZABETH ST, Sydney, New South Wales 2000 (02) 9264 6899
